Lasnamäe

About

Lasnamäe district

With its nearly 120 000 inhabitants, Lasnamäe is the biggest district in Tallinn, and taken by itself it is even bigger than the city of Tartu. This district with its enormous territory is where you’ll find areas that can be vastly different. Lasnamäe is divided into a residential and an industrial area, split by the Peterbury Street. The centre of Lasnamäe could be the Sikupilli subdistrict. The other edge of Lasnamäe is also the eastern border of the city.

Here you’ll find the Pirita River valley and the Iru ancient settlement site, where the biggest ancient fortress was built around a thousand years ago.

Today Lasnamäe is an affordable living environment with a comfortable bus connection, and over recent years the city of Tallinn has invested in modernising the area.
